We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Survey Crew Chief to join our team. This position will lead field survey crews in conducting various types of surveys, including boundary surveys, topographic surveys, oil/gas surveys, construction layout, and as-built surveys. The successful candidate will have a strong background in land surveying, excellent leadership abilities, and a commitment to delivering exceptional results.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise a survey field crew in performing land surveys in accordance with project requirements, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Plan and organize daily field operations, including coordinating tasks, equipment and resources, and ensuring work is completed efficiently and accurately.
  • Conduct field surveys using total stations, GPS equipment, levels, and other survey instruments, and ensure data integrity and quality control.
  • Interpret survey plans, legal descriptions, and other technical documents to accurately determine survey boundaries, locations, and elevations.
  • Assist in the preparation of survey reports, maps, and drawings, including field notes, sketches, and digital data files.
  • Maintain and calibrate survey equipment, tools, and vehicles, and ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, and other stakeholders to provide updates on project status, address concerns, and resolve issues as needed.
  • Mentor and train survey crew members, providing guidance and support to facilitate their professional development and growth.

Required Qualifications

Given the variety of needs and a desire to find the right person to fit within our team, we will consider candidates with a range of experience, education, and background.  As assets to the position, we are looking for the following skills, strengths and interests.  The ideal candidate would have:

  • Diploma or degree in Geomatics, Surveying Engineering Technology, or related field, OR Equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of [2] years of experience as a Survey Crew Chief or similar role in land surveying.
  • Proficiency in operating total stations, GPS equipment, and surveying software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Magnet Tools).
  • Strong understanding of surveying principles, techniques, and practices
  • Excellent leadership and teamwork skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire survey crew members to achieve project goals.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain, and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
